  1. Refers to the holistic relationship of the body and mind. Derived from the Greek word Σωματικóς (Somatikòs), meaning 'of the body'.
  2. The portion of a nerve cell that contains the nucleus – the thinking part of the cell that translates proprioception, restores balance and retains mind-body awareness.
  3. Pertains to somatic awareness methodologies; holistically oriented therapies that integrates the mental, emotional, spiritual and physical aspects of each of us. Somatic awareness allows a person to glean wisdom from within.

What is Pilates and what can it do for you?
